Raising Girls to be Leaders: This is Our Camp: Lucy Mostellar

by May 4, 2016Raising Girls to be Leaders: This is Our Camp

Lucy Mostellar is a sophomore at Auburn University studying Pre-Business. She is originally from Mobile, AL. At Auburn she is involved in Auburn University Dance Marathon, Students of Auburn Recruiting- Tigerette, Impact Volunteer, and she is a member of Phi Mu social sorority. Lucy has been coming to Riverview for 9 years, and as a member of our staff has taught archery and ropes course. When asked "What has Riverview done for you?" Lucy responded: "When I came to Riverview at age 9, I was shy and introverted. I asked if I could go to camp and my mom instantly thought it was a great idea, hoping it would help me come out of my shell. When I was dropped off, I cried because I didn’t want to stay, but two weeks later, I was crying because I just did not want to go home. Riverview taught me how to get out of my comfort zone and really put myself out there. Now, I’m almost 20 years old and have some of the strongest friendships thanks to camp. My freshmen year of college, I roomed with girls I met at Riverview and I honestly don’t know how I would have survived without them. Camp friends share a special bond that no one can really understand. The amount of road trips I have made over the years to visit camp friends are endless. We’re more than just friends; we’re like sisters. Riverview is a place that I can call home. No matter where my life takes me, I know that Riverview is a constant and will always be there calling me back."
